Essential Commodity Digital Currency
A Shariah-Oriented Framework for Cross-Border Essential Commodity Trade, Value Preservation and Digital Payments
The Essential Commodity Digital Currency project examines whether a digitally represented unit of value associated with a basket of essential commodities could provide a framework for cross-border trade, settlement and value preservation while operating within clearly defined Shariah principles.
The project considers the relationship between real commodity trade, digital settlement infrastructure, valuation mechanisms, governance, transparency, international payment systems and Islamic financial jurisprudence.
This initiative is currently at the concept-development and scholarly research stage. Its structures, valuation methodologies, Shariah parameters, governance arrangements and technology architecture remain subjects of research and validation.
